The Story Behind the Design
Our Hands. Our Culture. Our Story.
Freda Masina is a Wadjanbarra Yidinji and Goorang Goorang woman, artist, weaver and cultural facilitator. Together with the Jitta Art Weavers team, she celebrates traditional weaving practices while exploring contemporary design, sharing cultural knowledge and skills through community workshops and handcrafted creations.
Through one-to-one creative mentoring with Anna Gillison of Anna Jane & Co., Freda explored and developed her ideas for a contemporary handwoven clutch bag, bringing together traditional weaving techniques, cultural storytelling and modern design — created the Jitta Way.
With the new design developed, Freda and the Jitta Art Weavers team are now sharing their creation through community workshops, with handcrafted bags also available for purchase by commission.
